Visually the external appearance is acceptable, and particularly internally,is in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of it's 45+ year-old age.It is only the minimal faults described that prevents a slightly higher grading overall.Despite that,it really is still an acceptable example for it's cleanliness and lack of other or age-acquired detracting faults commonly encountered in a book of comparable age. The Trent is the largest river in southern Ontario.Approximately 250 steamers are known to have been used on the Trent at one time or another. The text is accompanied by many b/w photographs and illustrations showing the history of the steamers on the waterway, right from their trial period ca.,1832-1855 through to their decline ca.,1905-1951.
Steamers included propeller-steamers, paddlewheel-steamers, passenger steamers, freight steamers, palace steamers amd tramp steamers, alligator-steamers and steam yachts. In many regions steamboats were so important that whole communities and industries were dependant of them. Some of the boats were humble, crude and makeshift, others were elaborate, proud and beautiful. Some of them lasted only a few years, others survived for decades. Some are well-documented,but others are so obscure that little or nothing is known about them. Some have been totally forgotten.
